Drum Headache

After a couple of tracking sessions last week, I took a shot at running off a few working mixes. The three quieter tracks went well but no matter what magic I tried to sprinkle, the drums for Luminaire, Weather and Almost were as flat as pancakes. Time to set back up and try again.

In order to brighten things up, I’ve unmuted the snare and shifted the close SM57 back and inch or two, increased the room mic distance and added a close SM57 directly in front of the kit. In addition to that, I’ve rerouted the kick, snare and two overheads into Ableton via the Protools OO2R pre-amps.

Seems to have done the trick. Will retrack those takes later today.

The revised set up. Two overheads and front SM57 all 32” from snare centre.
